YOGA CLASSES
Christine Primavera will once again be offering yoga classes this spring. Sessions
left in this class are on May 29 and June 5. Cost is
$65 payable in advance to Friends of the Fiske. Sign up at the front desk.
Our Foreign Film Festival began in
April.
The next film The Violin will be shown on Wed. May 28 at 7PM. This film
is a Mexican import with English subtitles. The next film date is Wed. June 25 at 7PM.

The Trustees have voted a new policy regarding the leaving of minor children in the library at closing time. We have had instances when the staff has had to wait outside with a child for up to one half hour because the parent wasn’t here. This had made the child very nervous as there was nobody at their home when we called. In the future, if any child under age 16 is here at closing time we will call the Wrentham Police Department who will come to the library and take whatever action they feel is appropriate. Please realize that children are very concerned when their ride does not come at the appointed time.
We have had many complaints about the noise level in the library. It is your responsibility to keep your children with you and not running around inside the building. Please be aware that adults are disturbed by this behavior.

Thank you for helping make our annual booksale a huge success!! With your help
we were able to provide supplementary materials to the library.
I am writing this letter to ask your support for our summer reading program at
the Fiske Public Library.
We are asking library patrons, local businesses, banks, civic groups, etc. to
donate items (gift certificates, savings bonds, raffle items, crafts, school
supplies, coupons for free ice cream cones or slices of pizza, etc.) to
encourage Wrentham families to read together. We will use these are reading
incentive prizes.
We’re happy to say that participation in the summer reading program has grown
each year!!
YOUR SUPPORT IS GREATLY APPRECIATED! Thank you in advance.
We would appreciate it if you could make your donation as soon as possible so
that we may prepare publicity. Donations may be left at the library along with
your name and address. Please note that the donation is for the summer reading

UNSEEN BORDERS : STORIES IN SIGN AND VOICE
TUESDAY JUNE 10 – 6:30 PM
GRADES K-6
(adults & teens interested in sign language will enjoy program also)
Presented by deaf storyteller KR Glickman &
hearing teller Tony Toledo this program is one you don’t want to miss!! KR signs
her parts of the stories while Tony voice interprets what KR signs. Then Tony
signs as well as speaks his parts. Folks will SEE as well as HEAR stories.
Listeners will learn how to sign “A long, long time ago…”, “… happily ever
after.” And “Pay Me!” As a bonus attendees will also learn about Hearing Dogs.
They will get to pet KR’s hearing dog, Shana.
KR Glickman and Tony Toledo have been presenting Unseen Borders to eager
listeners throughout Massachusetts since 1998. KR graduated from Gallaudet
University, the only liberal arts university exclusively for Deaf undergraduates
in the world. Tony graduated from the University of Toledo. Both have lead
workshops at Sharing the Fire Storytelling Conferenece. Together they live on a
massive one tenth of an acre estate in Beverly, MA. With her basil, his books
and their Corn Museum.
KR has one blue eye and one brown eye. Tony says he is 47 years old but reads at
a 59 year old level!!! Tickets are now available at the circulation desk. Program is free but canned-good donations will be gratefully
accepted for the Wrentham Food Pantry.

CREATE A BOOKMARK CONTEST
Wrentham students of all
ages are invited to participate in a “CREATE A BOOKMARK CONTEST” and library
display. Cut two pieces of paper (2 inches by 8 inches), write a slogan to
promote reading and your name on one paper and illustrate the other paper. 12
winning entries will be chosen and copied to make 300 bookmarks to be given out
to all our members in the SUMMER READING CLUB. We’ll even laminate the bookmarks
and attach a ribbon to each one. The winner’s name will be printed on the
bookmarks! All entries will be displayed in the library. Drop off your entries
to Miss Liz by June 27th. NOTE: Bookmarks can be created using the
theme of “Wild Reads at the Library” or your own slogan if you’d like. ENJOY!!
CELEBRATE INDEPENDENCE DAY!!
BIKE DECORATING & PARADE
JULY 3 AT 2:30
You are invited to our bike decorating party at Fiske Library to celebrate the 4th
of July. Bring your bike, trike, scooter, baby buggy, doll carriage or wagon and
we’ll supply the red, white and blue decorations. Bring along a toy horn or
musical instrument and enjoy a few minutes of being “LOUD” in the library!!!
Bring your camera to take pictures of our “parade” around the library.

July 4th Bike Decorating and Parade to be held on July 3rd. You may
drop off your decorations at any time to the attention of Miss Liz if she is not

JUNGLE ENCOUNTERS : WILD ANIMAL SHOW
TUESDAY JULY 8 AT 6:00pm
AGES K and UP
Jungle encounters is owned and operated by Debi Willoughby. Debi has a lifetime
of experience working with animals. She has lectured and trained animals in zoos
and on her own. Jungle Encounters was established to teach people to respect
animals and the world we live in. There is a delicate balance between our lives,
the lives of the animals and the earth, and we must respect it and live in
harmony with it.
Tickets will be available at the circulation desk beginning June 4. Program is
free but canned-good donations will be gratefully accepted for the Wrentham Food
Pantry. This program is supported with a grant from the Sweatt Fund.
TRIP TO THE FIRE STATION

Meet at the library at 10:00 for a “Fire Story” and then walk over to tour the
Wrentham Fire Station and climb on the trucks!!

MADELINE STORYTIME

Join 8th grade Junior Volunteer, Claudia Robinson, for a story and
coordinating craft or activity from the wonderful Madeline collection. This is a
great way to spend a summer morning, so come to the Fiske Library in “two
straight lines” and take part in Madeline Storytime!!!

WINGMASTERS
: BIRDS OF PREY
TUESDAY AUG. 19 AT 6:00pm
AGES 6 and UP
Birds of Prey are also known as raptors. Eagles, hawks, falcons and owls are all
included in the group. This program concentrates on the native species
incorporating live birds from different raptor categories. An overview of Birds
of Prey is provided, explaining the birds’ place in the environment, their
different hunting adaptations, and their status in a rapidly changing world.
Because many Birds of Prey are declining in number, this presentation also
features one of more of the endangered raptors that we care for, and explains
why these species face an uncertain future.
Wingmasters is a partnership of two people dedicated to increasing public
understanding and appreciation of North American Birds of Prey. Julie Anne
Collier and Jim Parks are both licensed raptor rehabilitators based in
Massachusetts. Together they care for injured Birds of Prey. Most of the birds
they rehabilitate can ultimately be released back into the wild, but in some
cases the birds are left permanently handicapped. Julie and Jim are further
licensed to provide a home for these nonreleasable birds and to use them for
educational programs. Since 1994 Wingmasters has presented over 5000 programs at
schools, libraries and museums throughout New England.
